Prayer Topic #14
A Prayer for Shooting Victims and Survivors
Scripture Reading:
Psalm 65:1-5, Hebrews 4:14-16
Reflections of the Heart:
There have been over 200 mass shootings, in which four or more people were injured or killed, in 2023 so far. Unfortunately, mass shootings have become a part of American life. As believers, let’s take authority over the demonic and political powers behind gun violence and pray for victims and survivors.
Scriptural Prayer:
Holy Father, we thank You for Your loving care during this season. Thank You for the power of Your love that has shown up through the outpouring of compassion toward people. Thank You, Father, for blessing those who trust in You, who have made You their hope and confidence. Gracious Father, we praise You with all of our hearts. You merely spoke and the heavens were created. You breathed the word and all of the stars were born. Your plans stand firm forever and Your intentions can never be shaken. You are an awesome God!
Loving Father, our country is overwhelmed by the numerous mass shootings with many killed and numerous who have been wounded. Today, we cry out for the families of the people who have died. We declare that You, alone, are their refuge and place of safety. You are their God, and they can trust in You. The name of the Lord is a strong fortress and those who run to You will find spiritual and emotional protection. Lord, You have not given the families in Texas, New York, California, Georgia, Illinois, or Colorado, just to name a few, a spirit of fear, but a spirit of power, love, and self-discipline. As they trust in You and keep their thoughts fixed on You, we declare that every community will be kept in Your perfect peace. We declare that no weapon formed against Your people will succeed, and we silence every voice that has risen against us.
Ask Holy Spirit how you can specifically pray for or help families affected by mass shootings:
Holy Spirit, help each victim and family to heal. Father, please help those who have been hospitalized to heal from their wounds both physically and emotionally. Help those who were hurt to have sweet sleep at night and not be afraid for their safety of the safety of their families. Comfort families during their time of mourning. Holy Spirit, encourage those who remain fearful to seek and accept professional counseling, so they can get the help needed. As the accused face the consequences of their crimes, lead their path toward mental healing and draw them to salvation and repentance.
Forgiving Father, forgive the unsaved for not acknowledging You or Your Son. Forgive them for living in disobedience, hatred, rebellion, idolatry, greed, racism, adultery, fornication, injustice, and violence. Please let Your mercy and grace abound towards them. Forgive those people who are mean to people who do not look like them. Forgive those accused of committing these crimes across our country. Lord, forgive me for (list any sins that you have committed). Holy Spirit, remind us of all those we need to forgive and help us to be quick to forgive. As for me, Holy Spirit, bring to my remembrance those I need to forgive. (Take a moment and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal names or faces of people that you may need to forgive. As He reveals them, say, “I forgive name of person(s).” Now, trust the Lord to heal any wounds in your soul caused by unforgiveness.)
Holy Spirit, help us all not to yield to temptation but deliver us from the evil one.
Magnificent Lord, when You spoke, the world began! It appeared at Your command. You look down from heaven and see the whole human race. From Your throne, You observe all who live on the earth. O Lord, our Lord, Your majestic name fills the earth! In Jesus’ name, amen.
