Prayer Topic #15:
A Prayer for U. S. Military Personnel

Reflections of the Heart:
We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we’ve set. We’ve got to have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded. ~ Barack Obama
Scriptural Prayer:
O God, You are King over all the earth. We praise You with a psalm! You are worthy, O Lord our God, to receive glory and honor and power. For You created all things, and they exist because You created what You pleased. We will sing to You, Lord, as long as we live. We will praise You to our last breath! We thank You, O God! We give thanks because You are near. People everywhere tell of Your wonderful deeds. We are always thankful to You, Abba Father, for You have enabled us to share in the inheritance that belongs to Your people, who live in the light of Jesus Christ our Lord. We thank You, Holy Spirit, for inspiring our leaders to continually improve the administration of health care programs for our military personnel and veterans.
Heavenly Father, while we would prefer human beings to negotiate on behalf of their nations, we understand that all people on earth have not yet bowed their knees to Jesus Christ. They do not use Your mighty weapons rather than worldly weapons to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments. Therefore, the United States has military personnel who have volunteered to protect and defend our nation. Because plans succeed through good counsel, we declare that our nation will not go to another war without wise advice. We expect that President Joe Biden, as Commander in Chief, will sit down with his counselors to discuss whether the number of our military personnel is sufficient to defeat any insurgents and terrorists who march against our men and women in uniform. We declare that our God will stand up to judge those who do evil and to rescue the oppressed of the earth.
Heavenly Father, we pray for our U.S. military personnel that are serving throughout the world, that they will all know You and choose to live in the shelter of the Most High and find rest in the shadow of the Almighty. Holy Spirit, inspire President Joe Biden and his council of leaders to seek Your wisdom in determining the optimal strategy for the resolute of any conflict which may rise. Father we lift up to You all of our military personnel who are suffering any ramifications of depression, post-traumatic stress disorder and feeling unappreciated and rejected. May they seek and receive Your healing in their lives. We pray for those who have physical injuries and for the medical personnel who are charged with their care. We ask You to help world government leaders to develop and implement effective programs that will aid in sheltering our homeless veterans, providing proper mental and physical healthcare as needed and supplying them with fair funding for their continued education at the end of their tour of service. Let the peace that comes from Christ rule in the hearts of active and inactive military personnel. May they always be thankful. Let the message about Christ in all its richness, fill their lives.
I will specifically pray for the following military personnel who are members of our church and those the Holy Spirit brings to my mind:
Merciful Father, hear our prayers and petitions from heaven where You live, and uphold our cause. Forgive Your people who have sinned against You when they come before You in earnest repentance. Forgive those in our military whose zeal to defend our country causes them to act in ways which do not mirror the message of Your Word, which teaches us to be peacemakers who plant seeds of peace and reap a harvest of righteousness. Holy Spirit, inspire those who are critical of the work that our military personnel are doing to seek God’s forgiveness for their lack of compassion for the individuals who put themselves in harm’s way to protect our way of life. Lord, forgive me for list the sins that you have committed. Holy Spirit, remind us of those they need to forgive and help them to forgive. As for me, Holy Spirit, bring to my remembrance those I need to forgive. Take a moment and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal names or faces of people that you may need to forgive. As He reveals them, say “I forgive name of persons.” Now, trust the Lord to heal any wounds in your soul caused by unforgiveness.
Holy Spirit, remind our U. S. military personnel not to yield to temptation but deliver them from the evil one.
Lord, there is no one like You! For You are great, and Your name is full of power. O Lord, You have demonstrated Your holy power before the eyes of all the nations. All the ends of the earth will see the victory of our God. Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and strength belong to You forever and ever! In Jesus’ mighty name, amen.
