Prayer Topic #10:
A Prayer for the Singles in Our Windsor Village Church Family
Scripture Reading:
Psalm 33:1-9, Jeremiah 29:11-14
Reflections of the Heart:
The season of singleness is meant to be productive and fulfilling. The enemy would have us to believe the exact opposite of that. But the truth is that singles have unique advantages that allow them to focus on self-improvement and Kingdom-building pursuits. Relish this time and don’t allow the flesh or the world to steal your joy.
Scriptural Prayer:
Marvelous Father, we thank You for the single members of Windsor Village United Methodist Church. Thank You for the plans and purposes that You have for their lives. Thank You for reminding our singles that they are complete in You. We give thanks to You and we sing praises to You, O Most High. It is good for us to proclaim Your unfailing love in the morning and Your faithfulness in the evening, accompanied by the ten-stringed harp and the melody of the lyre. Great is Your faithfulness. Your mercies are fresh every morning.
Faithful Father, You have been gracious to our singles and it is Your will that they be joyful always, ceaseless in prayer, and thankful in all circumstances. In Jesus’ Name, we declare that our singles are free from the power of sin and have become slaves of God. They do only those things that lead to holiness and result in eternal life. Our singles do not despise this season; they embrace it. We proclaim that they fix their thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Their minds are filled with things that are excellent and worthy of praise. We declare that wisdom will enter their hearts and knowledge will fill them with joy. Wise choices will watch over them and understanding will keep them safe. We confess that our singles love You, therefore, they will not team up with those who are unbelievers, neither will they partner with those who practice wickedness. For those preparing for marriage, we decree and declare that they are living wisely and making the most of every opportunity.
Holy Spirit, help the singles in our Church Family to strip off every weight that slows them down; especially the sin that so easily trips them up. Teach them to run with endurance the race God has set before them. Search them, O God, and know their hearts. Test them and know their anxious thoughts. Point out anything in them that offends You, and lead them along the path of everlasting life. Should they ever become discouraged, remind them that if You be for them, who can ever be against them? Holy Spirit, help them to process any pain from their past and lead them to connect with those who are anointed and assigned to help them walk out their destiny. Show them how to make divine connections with others who will hold them accountable and help keep them focused and pressing toward the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling them.
Father, I commit to encouraging our singles by:
Compassionate Father, forgive our singles collectively and individually for the sinful acts that they have committed against You including: idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, homosexuality, selfish ambitions, fornication, envy, drunkenness, division and disobedience. Forgive them for not acknowledging You in all their ways. Forgive them for times when they have lost sight of who they are in Christ Jesus. Merciful Father, forgive me for (list any sins that you have committed). Holy Spirit, remind our singles of those they need to forgive and help them to be quick to forgive. As for me, Holy Spirit, bring to my remembrance those I need to forgive. (Take a moment and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal names or faces of people that you may need to forgive. As He reveals them, say, “I forgive name of person(s).” Now trust the Lord to heal any wounds in your soul caused by unforgiveness.)
Holy Spirit, help our singles not to yield to temptation but deliver them from the evil one.
Almighty God, You alone are God. You are the First and the Last. It was Your hand that laid the foundations of the earth; Your right hand that spread out the heavens above. When You call out the stars, they all appear in order. O Lord, the God of our ancestor Israel, may You be praised forever and ever! Yours, O Lord, is the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory, and the majesty. Everything in the heavens and on earth is Yours, O Lord, and this is Your Kingdom. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
