Prayer Topics #3:
A Prayer for Our Families
Scripture Reading:
Psalm 145:1-13, I Samuel 10:9-16
Reflections of the Heart:
It is the Lord’s good pleasure to bless our families. So, “may the Lord, the God of our ancestors, multiply our families a thousand times more and bless us as He has promised!” Deuteronomy 1:11 (NLT)
Scriptural Prayer:
Heavenly Father, we thank You for giving us dominion in the earth. Father, we thank You for our family relationships. We thank You for singles, the institution of marriage and parenthood. Lord, we thank You for fulfilling Your plans and purposes in our lives and for surrounding us with favor like a shield. Our souls honor You. You are great and Your power is absolute. Your understanding is beyond comprehension. We love You and exalt Your Holy Name. Out of the mouths of babes and infants, You have ordained strength. What is man that You are mindful of him, and the son of man that You visit him? Your mercy endures forever.
Almighty Father, it is Your will that men and women marry and create new families. It is Your will that our families prosper and be in health as our souls prosper. We declare that the families in the Windsor Village Church Family live in peaceful habitations, in safe dwellings, and in quiet resting places. We declare that stability, salvation, love, wisdom and knowledge abide in each home. We confess that our husbands love their wives as Christ loves the church and wives respect their husbands. They are blameless, the husband of one wife, temperate, and sober-minded. They are not given to wine, violence, greed for money, quarrelsome or covetous. We confess that they rule their own houses well. Our wives honor their husbands and accept the authority of their husbands. They are virtuous and capable women who are more precious than rubies. Their husbands can trust them and they will greatly enrich their lives. We declare that our children are obedient, for this is right in Your sight. We decree that the children of the righteous will be successful everywhere and an entire generation of Godly people will be blessed. Lord, we pray against the spirits of argument, slander, strife, perversion, violence, offense, lies, rebellion, disobedience and cruelty in our families. We break soul ties, strongholds and generational curses in our family bloodlines. We confess that no weapon formed against our families will prosper.
Holy Spirit, show me how I can show love and affection for my family on a daily basis:
Glorious Father, we ask that You give our family members one heart and put a new spirit within all of us. Where there are strained relationships in our families please turn hearts back to one another. Give us Your wisdom. Let discretion preserve us and understanding keep us from the way of evil. Please unite our families closer together. Holy Spirit, empower married couples and single parents to be the priests, prophets, husbands, wives, fathers, mothers, providers, protectors and leaders of their homes. Help them to not provoke their children to anger, but to bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord. Lord, strengthen and impart Your wisdom into the lives of our single parents. Help them to model a life that is pleasing to You. Holy Spirit, please help our singles to live with all Godliness and contentment, which is great gain. For those singles who desire a mate, help them to wait patiently on You. Father, open the lines of communication in our homes so that there is a good rapport in our families. Please keep our children and youth as the apples of Your eye and let Your favor surround them like a shield. Let Your peace, love and understanding reside in our families.
Father, please forgive our families for sin. Forgive them for all acts of sinfulness, including bitterness, resentment, adultery, fornication, spousal abuse, child abuse, envy, strife, unkindness, rebellion, deception, manipulation, control, doubt, fear, injustice, economic mismanagement, poor parenting and oppression. Lord, forgive me for (list any sins that You have committed). Holy Spirit, remind us of all those we need to forgive and help us to be quick to forgive. As for me, Holy Spirit, bring to my remembrance those I need to forgive. (Take a moment and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal names or faces of people that You may need to forgive. As He reveals them, say, “I forgive name of person(s).” Now, trust the Lord to heal any wounds in Your soul caused by unforgiveness.)
Holy Spirit, help us all not to yield to temptation but deliver us from the evil one.
Sovereign Lord, You are Great; You are most worthy of praise! You are to be feared above all gods. The gods of other nations are mere idols, but You made the heavens! Honor and majesty surround You; strength and joy fill Your dwelling. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
