Prayer Topic #29:
A Prayer for Our Citizens in the Greater Houston Area
Scripture Reading:
Psalm 105:1-10, I Corinthians 12:1-3
Reflections of the Heart:
This is the 10th day of the Omer. “We praise You, O Lord our God, King of the Universe, who has sanctified us by Jesus Christ, our eternal Redeemer and Savior, and commanded us to count the Omer. By faith, we wait with joyful hearts to celebrate the sending of Your Holy Spirit.”
Scriptural Prayer:
Righteous Father, we thank You for blessing our city as we continue to recover and rebuild from Hurricane Harvey. Thank You for allowing us to call upon You in our times of need. Thank You, Lord, for Your bountiful blessings upon the lives of our citizens. We are grateful, and we bless Your Name. Lord, You are King! You are robed in majesty and armed with strength. The world stands firm and cannot be shaken. We praise Your Name, Father, forever and ever. You have all wisdom and power. You control the course of world events, removing kings and setting up other kings. You give wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the scholars. You reveal deep and mysterious things and only You know what lies hidden in darkness, though You are surrounded by light.
Triumphant Father, let Your Kingdom come and Your will be done in the Greater Houston Area as it is in heaven. Unless You build the house, the work of the builders is wasted. Unless You protect our city, guarding it with military might will do no good. We need You in our city; we need Your presence, provision and protection. Lord, You are our refuge, our place of safety. Lord of Heaven’s armies, You are our God, and we will trust in You. By faith, we declare that the citizens of our communities are blessed. They will depart from evil and do good; they will seek peace and pursue it. As they do this, we confess that Your peace will be within our communities and prosperity will be in our homes. In obedience to Your Word, we make intercession for those who are in positions of authority in our city so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by Godliness and dignity. We pray for Mayor Sylvester Turner, our city council members, county commissioners, school board officials, and all public officials. We pray for our leaders in business and commerce, healthcare, education and the religious community. By faith, we decree that those leaders who do not know You will accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. We command justice to run down like water and righteousness like a mighty stream within the private and public sectors.
Holy Spirit, as I pray for the Greater Houston Metropolitan Area, help me to pray specifically for:
Holy Spirit, send us into our communities to share Your Gospel and cause Your power to prevail throughout our city. Unify our communities. We ask You to fill all our leaders and public service personnel with Your wisdom, understanding, discernment and knowledge. Help them to operate with honesty and integrity and to make decisions that align with Your Kingdom principles. Please place people in their paths that will provide scriptural, sound and Godly counsel. Holy Spirit, bless the Greater Houston Area to be a beacon of light in our nation and world.
Loving Father, please forgive our citizens and leaders for all acts of sinfulness, including greed, pride, arrogance, selfish ambitions, hypocrisy, injustice, idolatry, adultery, slander, sexism, elitism, oppression, partiality, lust, manipulations, lying, ungodliness and perversion. Lord, forgive us, the Body of Christ, for not always praying for our leaders and citizens consistently. Forgive us for putting our agendas and motives ahead of Your plans for our city. Father, please have mercy on our city and send Your peace. Lord, forgive me for (list any sins that you have committed.) Holy Spirit, remind our leaders and citizens of those they need to forgive and help them to be quick to forgive. As for me, Holy Spirit, bring to my remembrance those I need to forgive. (Take a moment and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal names or faces of people that you may need to forgive. As He reveals them, say, “I forgive name of person(s).” Now, trust the Lord to heal any wounds in your soul caused by unforgiveness.)
Holy Spirit, help all of us not to yield to temptation but deliver us all from the evil one.
Holy, Holy, Holy, are You, the Lord God Almighty, who was, and is and is to come. You alone are God. You are subject to none, yet all are subject to You. Yours is the Kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
