~ Tori Amos

Scriptural Prayer:

Omniscient Father, thank You for Your everlasting peace. Thank You for Jesus, the Author and Finisher of our faith. We thank You for the comfort of the Holy Spirit who comforts us when life seems overwhelming. Our troubles are only for a moment, even if they seem like they will never end. We have the assurance of Your Word that present troubles are small and won’t last very long. Praise the Lord! It is good for us to sing praises to You. How delightful and how fitting. You heal the brokenhearted and bandage their wounds. You take no pleasure in the strength of a horse or in human might. No, Your delight is in those who fear You, those who put their hope in Your unfailing love. Our praise will release us from the heaviness that emotional burdens inflict upon us. So, we will lift our hands and sing praises to You in the sanctuary among all those who believe in You!

Precious Father, You are our shelter in the stormy times of life. We can count on You to be there to strengthen and comfort us with your unwavering love whenever we are filled with doubt and uncertainty. Jesus, our High Priest, understands our weaknesses, for He faced all of the same testings we do, yet He did not sin. We declare that freedom is ours because He has truly made us free from depression, anxiety, shame, fear, anger, and torment. We expect those who are suffering with emotional pain to rise up in the knowledge that the joy of the Lord is their strength. You are tenderhearted toward those who are struggling to keep trusting and believing in You. You alone can go before them and make the crooked places straight. We decree that You will cover them with Your feathers. You will shelter them with Your wings. Your faithful promises are their armor and protection.

Find God’s promises concerning peace and begin to proclaim them over those people who you know are stressed, brokenhearted, and overburdened by life:

Holy Spirit, give a crown of beauty for ashes, a joyous blessing instead of mourning, festive praise instead of despair to all those who need emotional healing. Remove the sting of the past from those who are oppressed in their souls. Give them the will to rise above circumstances and situations beyond their control. Help them to lean and depend on the Father for the best outcome for their lives. Convict the hearts of those who have caused someone to experience emotional bondage. Help those who have been hurt by others to give all of their pain to You and to allow You to avenge their injustices. Teach them to believe again in the faithfulness of the Father. Destroy the lies of the enemy that may cause them to doubt the Father’s love for them in any way. Embrace them with the impenetrable grace that is able to reach them wherever they are and lead them into restoration.

Loving Father, forgive us for our sins. Forgive us for speaking hurtful words that have left others wounded. Forgive us for times when we have trivialized the pain of someone who reached out to us for help. Forgive those who are emotionally hurting for rejecting the love that has been extended toward them. Forgive them for worrying instead of trusting in You. Forgive them for trying to take matters into their own hands in order to avenge themselves. Lord, forgive me for (list any sins that You have committed). Holy Spirit, remind those who are emotionally hurting of those they need to forgive and help them to be quick to forgive. As for me, Holy Spirit, bring to my remembrance those I need to forgive. (Take a moment and ask the Holy Spirit to show You names or faces of people that You may need to forgive. As He shows You, say aloud, “I forgive name of person(s).” Now, trust the Lord to heal any wounds in Your soul caused by unforgiveness.)

Almighty Father, help those who are emotionally hurting not to yield to temptation; but deliver them from the evil one.

Open up, ancient gates! Open up, ancient doors, and let the King of glory enter. Who is the King of glory? The Lord of Heaven’s Armies – He is the King of glory. Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and strength belong to our God forever and ever! In Jesus’ name, amen.
