Prayer Topic #15:

A Prayer for God’s Favor Upon Our Parents and Guardians

Scripture Reading:

Psalm 89:1-6, Psalm 128:1-6

Reflections of the Heart:

God has appointed fathers and mothers to lead their families.  Fathers have been appointed by God to lead their families in God’s ways.  Mothers have been appointed to guide and nurture their families in God’s ways. Together, fathers and mothers are to be the example of Christ’s relationship with the church. God demands parents to take responsibility for raising up children in the way they are to live, in a direction toward reverence of God.

Scripture Prayer:

Almighty Father, thank You for Your love.  Thank You for blessing us with parents and guardians who take good care of their children. Thank You for writing our names on the palms of Your hands and knowing us so well that You know how many strands of hair are on our heads. You are good and Your unfailing love continues forever. Your faithfulness continues to each generation. We will sing a new song to You, Lord. The whole earth will sing to You and sing praises to Your name. Each day we will tell the good news that You save. We will tell everyone about the amazing things You do. You are great and most worthy of praise!

Wonderful Father, we declare that children will obey their parents and guardians in the Lord; for this is right. As they are obedient to them, we confess that things will go well with our families and their days will be long on the earth. We decree that our parents and guardians will delight in obeying You, therefore, they will be successful everywhere. We confess that they will trust You with all their hearts and not depend on their own understanding. They will seek Your will in all that they do and we are expecting You to show them which path to take. We declare that favor surrounds them like a shield.

Holy Spirit, please bless our parents and guardians and fill them with Your power. Help them to raise their children in God’s ways. Provide everything they need to make their homes safe and happy. As God’s blessings overtake them, remind them to always be mindful to thank and praise Him.

Holy Spirit, please bless the parent(s) and guardian(s) to:

Precious Father, forgive our parents and guardians for all acts of sin. Forgive them for not always trusting You to provide what their families need.  Forgive children and youth when they have not obeyed their parents and guardians. Father, please forgive me for (list any sins that you have committed.)  Lord, remind us all of those we need to forgive; and help us to be quick to forgive. As for me, Holy Spirit, please bring to my remembrance those that I need to forgive.  (Take a moment and ask the Holy Spirit to show you names or faces of people that you may need to forgive.  As He shows you, say aloud, “I forgive name of person(s).”)

Righteous Father, help our parents and guardians to not yield to temptation; but deliver them from the evil one.

One true and living God, You alone are holy.  All nations will come and worship You. Your name is very great; Your glory towers over the earth and heaven!  In Jesus’ name, men.
