Prayer Topic #2:
A Prayer for Houston Police, Fire and Emergency Medical Personnel
Scripture Reading:
Psalm 48:1-8, Romans 13:1-7
Reflections of the Heart:
First responders consistently risk their lives to keep ours safe. These brave men and women face danger every time they show up for work. Keep our first responders and their families in your prayers.
Scriptural Prayer:
Merciful Father, we thank You for the men and women who serve as police officers, firefighters and emergency first responders for the Greater Houston Area. Thank You for empowering them spiritually, mentally, psychologically and physically for the trauma that they face daily. Thank You for being their strength and their hope. You are awesome in Your sanctuary. God of Israel, You give power and strength to Your people. Praise be to You, God! May all who are Godly rejoice in You, Lord, and praise Your holy Name! Let all who take refuge in You rejoice; let them sing joyful praises forever. We give thanks to You who made the heavens so skillfully. Your faithful love endures forever. We give thanks to You who placed the earth among the waters. Your faithful love endures forever.
Today, we stand in the gap for our police officers, firefighters, and emergency medical personnel. We declare God’s protection and provision over their lives. In Jesus’ name, we declare that no weapon turned against them will succeed. Every voice which rises to accuse them will be silenced. As they go out on emergency calls, we confess that You will order Your angels to protect them wherever they go. Your angels will hold them up with their hands so they will not hurt their foot on a stone. By faith, we confess that the public servants who are called by Your name, Father, will love You with all of their hearts, soul, strength, and mind. They will find their source of strength in You. We declare that they will consistently seek Your will in all that they do and You will show them which path to take.
Holy Spirit, as the first responders seek You for wisdom, please reveal any snares, traps, or pitfalls that lay ahead of them and show them how to circumvent these dangers. Help them to remain focused when they respond to an emergency. Help them to all work together as a well-oiled machine. Remind them to be their brother or sister’s keeper. Calm the fears of their loved ones, especially young children. Help the family members to trust You for the safety of their loved ones. Holy Spirit, remind those first responders who are believers to always be joyful, never stop praying, and to be thankful in all circumstances. Remind the citizens of our great city to be mindful of our first responders; to follow their instructions, pray for them and to be appreciative of the commitment that these men and women have made to our city.
Holy Spirit, show me ways in which I may assist the police, fire, and emergency medical personnel in my community:
Merciful Father, forgive our police, fire and emergency personnel for all acts of sinfulness. Forgive them for any injustice within the respective departments. Forgive us as a city for failing to recognize first responders until a tragedy occurs. Lord, forgive me for (list any sins that you have committed). Holy Spirit, remind our police officers, fire-fighters and emergency medical personnel of those they need to forgive and help them to forgive. As for me, Holy Spirit, bring to my remembrance those I need to forgive. (Take a moment and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal names or faces of people that you may need to forgive. As He reveals them, say, “I forgive name of person(s).” Now, trust the Lord to heal any wounds in your soul caused by unforgiveness.)
Holy Spirit, help our police officers, fire-fighters and emergency medical personnel not to yield to temptation but deliver them from the evil one.
Lord of Heaven’s Armies, You are great. How deserving of praise, in the city of our God, which sits on Your mountain! As Your name deserves, O God, You will be praised to the ends of the earth. Your strong right hand is filled with victory. God Almighty, You reign forever and ever! In Jesus’ name, amen.
