Prayer Topic #7:
A Prayer Declaring God’s Protection
Scripture Reading:
Psalm 92:1-8, John 17:11-19
Reflections of the Heart:
“The Lord keeps you from all harm and watches over your life. The Lord keeps watch over you as you come and go, both now and forever.” Psalm 121:7-8 (NLT)
Scriptural Prayer:
Almighty Father, thank You for watching over us day and night. Thank You for assigning Your angels to guard our comings and goings. Thank You for being faithful to Your promise to guard and protect us. We love You, Lord! You are our strength. You are our rock, our fortress, and our Savior, in whom we find protection. You are our shield; the power that saves us. We will call upon You, for You are worthy of praise, and You will save us from our enemies. We bless Your Holy name because You arm us with strength, and You make our way perfect. Father, we know that it is Your right hand that supports us. Through Your help, we are made great.
Beloved Father, the world we live in is full of dangers and pitfalls, many of which we cannot even see. But, as the people of God, we declare that our eyes will continue to look for our help to come from You. As a Church Family, we commit to always pray for one another so that we will remain inside Your hedge of protection at all times. We confess that we will lie down and sleep in peace because it is You alone who will keep us safe. We declare that You are our hiding place where we can be protected from trouble. Lord, as we go to our various daily destinations, we will trust You to guide us along the best pathway for life. We will trust You to advise us and watch over us. We will not leave our families exposed to unnecessary risks, but we will be responsible and diligent to discuss safety rules with our children. We confess that we are excellent stewards over our earthly possessions, and we take all proper precautions to secure that which You have entrusted us with. We declare that we will not fall into the dangerous trap of fearing people, but we will always trust in the safety that is found in You, our Lord.
Think back on a specific time in your life when God protected You or a loved one and give Him praise:
Holy Spirit, where would we be without You? It is You who warns us when we are in danger. It is You who helps us make wise choices that lead to life and safety. Show us how to improve our discernment when forming new relationships and keep us from leaving our families exposed to impending dangers from others. Keep us alert and aware of our surroundings wherever we go. Help us to be consistent in communicating with our family members, co-workers, and friends so that we all look out for one another as we should. Comfort those who have been violated in some way that has caused them to feel vulnerable to the threat of danger. Remind them that they are not alone and that the Father loves and cares for them. Help us to build our faith so that we will not condone fear in our hearts, for we know that the Father has not given us a spirit of fear.
Loving Father, please forgive us for not trusting You as we should. Forgive us for at times not being as observant and diligent as we should be. Forgive us for allowing ourselves to become too distracted to practice safety as we should. Forgive those of us who have left loved ones unprotected. Lord, forgive me for (list any sins that You have committed). Holy Spirit, remind us all of those we need to forgive and help us to be quick to forgive. As for me, Holy Spirit, bring to my remembrance those I need to forgive. (Take a moment and ask the Holy Spirit to show You names or faces of people that You may need to forgive. As He shows You, say aloud, “I forgive name of person(s).” Now, trust the Lord to heal any wounds in Your soul caused by unforgiveness.)
Holy Spirit, help us all not to yield to temptation but deliver us from the evil one.
Now all glory to You, Our God, who is able to keep us from falling and who will bring us with great joy into Your glorious presence without a single fault. All glory to You alone who is God, our Savior through Jesus Christ our Lord. All glory, majesty, power, and authority are Yours before all time, and in the present, and beyond all time! In Jesus’ name, amen.
