Prayer Topic #10:
A Prayer Against Fear and Anxiety
Scripture Reading:
Psalm 23, II Samuel 22:1-7
Reflections of the Heart:
The world we live in is as wrought with danger as it is with beauty. But, as children of the Living God, we have the assurance of knowing that we are safe and secure within our Heavenly Father’s protective arms. His angels are watching over us wherever we go.
Scriptural Prayer:
Wonderful Father, we thank You for peace and protection for our families. We thank You, Lord, for having plans for good and not disaster for us, to give us a future and a hope. Thank You for blessing us with Your perfect peace as we keep our thoughts fixed on You. Thank You for being our strength in times of weakness. You are great and most worthy of praise. You are to be feared above all gods. The earth is Yours and everything in it; the world and all its people belong to You. You laid the earth’s foundation on the seas and built it on the ocean’s depths. You are the King of glory, the Lord strong and mighty. You are the Lord, invincible in battle. O Lord, You have performed many wonders for us. Your plans for us are too numerous to list. You have no equal. We are grateful that when we, Your people, call to You for help, You hear and rescue us out of our troubles.
Almighty Father, You are our light and salvation, so we will not be afraid. You are our fortress, protecting us from danger, so we will not tremble. We will live peacefully and safely in our homes. Lord, we expect that You will continue to put a wall of protection around our families during the current pandemic. We confess that when we walk in the midst of trouble, You will revive us and stretch forth Your hand and save us. Lord, You have left Your gift of peace of mind with us, so our hearts will not be afraid. Using the authority given to us by Jesus Christ, we cancel the spirits of fear and anxiety from our families, homes, communities, cities, states, nation and world. The name of Jesus is greater than any name in this earth, and we command peace to be still! We confess that as those throughout the world trust in You, they will experience Your peace, which is far more wonderful than the human mind can understand.
Holy Spirit, I declare God’s peace to be manifested in my family:
Faithful Father, help us all to cast our cares on You during this time. Holy Spirit, please bring comfort for the families of those who are experiencing loss. As Christians, remind us to demonstrate our faith by living in ways that bring glory to You. Strengthen and protect those families whose lives have been shattered disease, death, and discrimination, and please provide the funds for those who may not have adequate resources for food. Help our children and youth to process their emotions and deliver them from any fear or anxiety. Cause neighbors to help, encourage and watch out for each other. Protect those health professionals and first responders who are caring for patients and keep them safe. Please increase the prayer movement throughout the world, and help us all to pray with boldness and diligence. Lord, pour out Your wisdom, knowledge, and understanding to our leaders, government officials, and healthcare professionals who are responsible for addressing this pandemic. Touch the hearts of all world leaders to look to You for guidance and direction.
Holy Spirit, forgive us for all acts of sinfulness including fear, anxiety, worry, and unbelief. Forgive those who are using the Coronavirus as an excuse to discriminate against people from other countries. Forgive the US media for spreading fear. Forgive those who choose not to trust in You. Forgive those of us who are Christians for not sharing Your Gospel as we interact with others, especially our neighbors. Lord, forgive me for (list any sins that you have committed). Holy Spirit, remind us all of those we need to forgive and help us to be quick to forgive. As for me, Holy Spirit, bring to my remembrance those I need to forgive and help me to forgive. (Take a moment and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal names or faces of people that you may need to forgive. As He reveals them, say, “I forgive name of person(s).” Now, trust the Lord to heal any wounds in your soul caused by unforgiveness.)
Holy Spirit, help us all not to yield to temptation but deliver us from the evil one.
Eternal Lord, You are the blessed and Sovereign One; the King of kings, and the Lord of lords, who alone has immortality, dwelling in unapproachable light, whom no man can see. Yours is the Kingdom, the power, and the glory forever and ever. In Jesus’ name, amen.
