Prayer Topic #11:

A Declaration of Spiritual Authority

Scripture Reading:

Psalm 40; Romans 13:1-5

Reflections of the Heart:

The Church is the Body of Christ, and the Spirit is the Spirit of Christ. He fills the Body, directs its movements, controls its members, inspires its wisdom, supplies its strength. He guides into truth, sanctifies its agents, and empowers for witnessing. The Spirit has never abdicated His authority nor relegated His power.                                                                                          ~Samuel Chadwick

Scriptural Prayer:

Glorious Father, we thank You for Your Word which instructs and guides us. Thank You for the opportunity to grow in Christ. Lord Jesus, we thank You for giving us authority to overcome all the power of the enemy. Father, with all that we are, we will praise You. We will praise Your name as long as we live. You made heaven and earth, the sea and everything in them. You keep every promise forever. You are righteous in everything that You do. You are filled with kindness. Lord, You are close to all who call on You in truth. You grant the desires of those who fear You; You hear their cries for help and rescue them. You are the Great I AM. We praise and honor Your holy and awesome name.

Loving Father, we will study Your Word! We will use the authority given to us, as we all come to unity in our faith and knowledge of Your Son so that we mature in You; measuring up to the full and complete standard of Christ Jesus. We confess that as a community of faith we will study God’s Word so that we are not ashamed and we will correctly explain the Word of truth. By faith, we decree that we are growing daily in the knowledge of Your Word and we are more sensitive to the Holy Spirit’s leadership. We are moving from the sincere milk of Your Word to becoming meat-eaters. We will not be unskilled in the Word of righteousness like babes in Christ, but we will develop to recognize the difference between right and wrong like those who are spiritually mature.

Lord, enlighten our hearts through the Word of God. Help each of us to fully obtain knowledge of the Father’s will and to walk in spiritual wisdom and understanding. Once we do this, then our lives will always honor and please the Lord and we will produce every kind of good fruit. Holy Spirit, stir our hearts to hunger and thirst after righteousness, so that we are filled daily. Please show each of us where we need to mature in our Christian walk so that in all things, and in all occasions, we will represent the Kingdom of God well.

Forgiving Father, please forgive us for all acts of sinfulness. Forgive those who have been slack about learning more about who we are, in Christ. Forgive those who choose not submit to governing spiritual authority in our Church Family. Forgive us all for at times depending on ourselves instead of You, Your Son, and Your Holy Spirit. Forgive those of us who carry offenses, grudges, and anger.  Forgive all of us for acts of pride, rebellion, disobedience, selfishness, hatred, and idolatry. Lord, forgive me for (list any sins that you have committed). Holy Spirit, remind us all of those we need to forgive and please help us to forgive. As for me, Holy Spirit, bring to my remembrance those I need to forgive. (Take a moment and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal names or faces of people that you may need to forgive.  As He reveals them to  you, say, “I forgive name of person(s).” Now, trust the Lord to heal any wounds in your soul caused by unforgiveness.)

Holy Spirit, help us all not to yield to temptation but deliver us from the evil one.

Great and marvelous are Your works, Lord God Almighty! Just and true are Your ways, O King of the nations. Who will not fear You, O Lord, and glorify Your name? You alone are Holy. All nations will come and worship before You, for Your righteous deeds have been revealed. In Jesus’ name, amen.
