I was taking a walk in the afternoon on a hot summer day. It was 97 degrees outside and I could feel the sun baking my back. I was about a quarter of a mile home and I was wondering how am I going to make it…it’s so hot.
The Holy Spirit said, “Just put one foot in front of the other.” And I did just that, placed one foot in front of the other till I made it home. That word just put one foot in front of the other stuck with me for a lot of reasons. It brought me back to the Israelites leaving Egypt for some reason, so I looked at the passage again and gained new insights I’d like to share. I read Exodus chapter 14 the parting of the Red Sea.
In verses 1-4, we learn that God told the Israelites to turn around. God did this to display His glory and so that the Egyptians would know He is God.
So I ask myself in what areas of my life is God using to display His glory so that others will know that He is God?
In verses 5-9, the Egyptians catch up with the Israelites. The Egyptians have all the weaponry to win and it seems like they will so I understand the Israelite’s fear and complaining in verses 10-12. God shared the plan with Moses their leader not them. It looked like they were about to die because they had know where to go and the Egyptians were on them. The Israelites complained to Moses and were in fear and panic. Moses then tells them the plan in verses 13-14. But God tells Moses why are you crying out tell the people to get moving…this is where the words put one foot in front of the other came back to me. There is no need to complain, fret, or worry about how I will make it home, just keep moving.
This helps on so many levels…if we know that God is faithful to keep his promises we just have to put one foot in front of the other. I’m sure many of you know the rest of the story…Moses raised his staff and God parted the Red Sea, the Israelites walked through on dry ground.
As we put one foot in front of the other God will part our “Red Sea” whatever it may be. Remember God will do it to display His Glory.
STAY ENCOURAGED.
