Prayer Topic #4:

A Prayer for the Feast of Trumpets

Scripture Reading:

Psalm 81; Psalm 150:1-6

During the Feast of Trumpets we are instructed to listen to the sound of the shofar as it serves as God’s alarm clock. Its sharp blasts alert us to celebrate a New Year in Christ and to usher in the High Holy Days, so Happy New Year and Hallel YAH! God also designed the sound of the shofar to arouse something deep within us, to call us back to Him, to awaken us from our spiritual slumber, and to harken us to make a change, a shift. So on this New Year’s Day, as we dip our apples in honey and taste and see God’s goodness, listen to the sound of the shofar and allow its reverberations to not only pierce the atmosphere, but to pierce your very soul as well. Our time of spiritual awakening and renewal is NOW!

Scriptural Prayer:

Loving Father, thank You for a sweet new year in Christ Jesus. Thank You for desiring to awaken us to return to You. Thank You for entering into a covenant cycle of blessings with us as we reflect, repent, and recalibrate. We are so grateful to You for giving us Your instruction to listen to the shofar during Your High Holy Days; for Your instructions are perfect, reviving the soul. They are more desirable than gold, even the finest gold. They are sweeter than honey, even honey dripping from the comb. Yes, how sweet your words taste to us; they are sweeter than honey; no wonder we hate every false way of life.

Heavenly Father, Your Kingdom Come Your will be done for us in this new year in You. We decree and declare that with each blast of the ram’s horn we will look back over the past year and thank You as we recount our blessings, reflect on our triumphs, reconnect with achieved goals, and remember our accomplishments in Christ Jesus. For You are the God who gives us victory. We decree and declare that with each blast of the ram’s horn we will stop and reflect over the past year about our misdeeds, missteps, and mistakes not stuck in regret, guilt, or condemnation, but with the expectation, hope, and resiliency that this year we will bounce back and get it right in order to reach our Kingdom building goals. For You are the God of second chances. We decree and declare that with each blast of the ram’s horn we will be open, receptive, and submissive to Your visions, dreams, and goals for our lives, our families, and our communities. We will write them down and make them plain so that this year we will fulfill our prophetic destiny. For You are the God who has plans to prosper us and not to harm us; who gives us a future and hope.

Holy Spirit, please release Your power and anointing when the shofar is blown. Cause its blasts to help us be honest and objective as we assess and measure our lives against Your Word. Allow it to remove any fears we may have of the reflection and self-examination process. Cause its vibrations to help us to repent where repentance is needed. Allow it to sharpen our discernment and cause our ears and hearts to be attentive and attuned to Your voice because the voice of another we will not follow. Permit it to open fresh portals in the heavenlies so that Your plans from the supernatural realm will reach us in the natural realm causing our sons and daughters to prophesy, our old men to dream dreams, and our young men to see visions.

Allow the Holy Spirit to minister to you through God’s instrument. Its sharp cutting echoes will bring clarity and focus to your life. Relax and soak in the moment, then list the ideas, goals, prophetic words, dreams, and visions that the Holy Spirit is giving you.

Redeeming Father, forgive us this past year for not living up to our full potential, wasting opportunities, and leaving blessings on the table. Forgive us for succumbing to our fears and flesh instead of acting in faith. Forgive us for walking in doubt and unbelief instead of walking out Your dreams and visions for our lives. Lord, forgive me for (list any sins that you have committed). Holy Spirit, remind us all of those we need to forgive and help us to be quick to forgive. As for me, Holy Spirit, bring to my remembrance those I need to forgive. (Take a moment and ask the Holy Spirit to show you names or faces of people that you may need to forgive. As He shows you, say aloud, “I forgive name of person(s).” Now, trust the Lord to heal any wounds in your soul caused by unforgiveness.)

Heavenly Father, help us to not yield to temptation; but deliver us from the evil one.

O Lord, God of Israel, there is no god like You in all of heaven above or on the earth below. You keep Your covenant and show unfailing love to all who walk before You in wholehearted devotion. We praise Your name with singing and we honor You with thanksgiving. Our hearts are confident in You, O God; no wonder we sing Your praises. Almighty God, we will always proclaim what You have done. King of kings, Lord of lords, we sing praises to the God of Jacob. In the mighty name of Jesus, amen!
